We invite you to join us in this incredible hobby we share as living historians.

Members of the 13th US teach history in a whole new way. As amateur historians, we portray a Regular Army infantryman from the 1860's and bring him to life by imitating as authentically as possible the dress and manner of that time. We introduce the public to what it was like in that era through our military persona, drill, and customs.

Our travels take us to places where monumental events occurred. We encounter fascinating people who share our mutual interest in history; thus, making close connection as we relive a slower-paced world by "stepping back in time."  Members of the 13th US are part of a close-knit family where friends become comrades.  You quickly rely on one another and together we honor the memory of those soldiers who sacrificed for their country during America's most turbulent period.

Sometimes, when the setting is right, an interesting phenomenon occurs; out minds play with the notion that we really have traveled to the past. Once you've experienced that, you'll anticipate another.

We hope you'll join us in bringing the Civil War out from the history books back into today's reality-a reality that can be yours.

Try us out
Reenacting is one of those rare endeavors where you actually get to "try out the hobby" before deciding to get involved. We are able to outfit you with everything you need for your first muster. All you need to bring is black footwear, a bedroll, and a positive attitude to learn.

Expectations
Since your safety and that of the unit is a priority, you can expect to be sufficiently trained before engaging in a reenactment. You'll learn from a veteran reenactor how to safely handle a rifle and how to drill.  Many of our members learned to drill by joining our unit, never having prior military experience.

Initial Cost of Uniforms and Equipment
Most new members buy items as they are financially able, relying on loaned equipment from the unit for a reasonable period of time. You will be guided through the buying process so that the right (authentic) item is purchased, at the right price, in progressive stages.

Membership and Dues
Any male who is 16 years or older can be a soldier; 15 years and younger can be a fifer or drummer. All children 17 or younger must be accompanied by a parent at all times.  Dues are $15 per family per year and are pro-rated based on the month you join.

Frequency of Activities
There is one maximum-effort event each month. In addition to reenactments, we also assemble for drills, living histories, parades, and classes on military equipment.
